2016 is roaring in. Make time to clear away any clutter from your office, your desk and of course your mind. It is time to begin again and start fresh. Take these easy steps to end your year strong.
Meet Jeremy
Jeremy thanked me, “Pamela before I just left off at work without any thought to ending my year properly. I had no idea about what it meant begin my New Year fresh. It always felt like I was always stuck in quicksand.
Just spending a little time to end my year on a good note made an amazing difference in my attitude, my progress and my enthusiasm for my next year.”
Here are three easy steps to help you finish your year strong.
Step One: Organize
Clear your office, of obsolete files and paperwork. Take a few minutes each day to file away old cases, toss everything from your office that you don’t need. This will help you clear your mind and give you the ability to focus on your new year. Make a list with a stack of everything that is a priority for the upcoming year.
Step Two: Thank
Thank clients, potential clients, support staff and colleagues. T’is the season to be jolly. Making time to write short notes to the people who helped you succeed will pay huge dividends in the upcoming year. No time for a note, even an email saying thank you can go a long way.
Thank yourself. Make a short list of things you are thankful for last year. In order to progress, it is important to acknowledge and congratulate yourself for progress, things you did well and for the wins.
Step Three: Set goals for next year
The importance of goal setting cannot be overemphasized. This requires time to think and plan. Of course the firm will ask for a business plan. However, savvy lawyers will set their personal benchmarks and goals for the upcoming year.
Having goals inspires an attorney and gives him or her a purpose when they go into the office each day. One needs to include personal goals and also include the family. When looking at goals you want to look at what you did well and what needs to be improved and changed. You can check out a suggested exercise to do oclick here.
You Deserve the Time
Taking the time to properly close out 2015 is a worthwhile investment that will pay handsomely when you return to the office after New Years Day. It can feel terrible to walk into a mess of disorganization and clutter, just wading knee-deep in paperwork.
Give yourself a Gift
Ending your year well is healthy and helps you gear up and charge your enthusiasm for 2016.
Give yourself the time to enjoy your holiday either with family, friends. While attorneys are always goal oriented, give yourself some time for solitude. Go for a walk, or to a go to a coffee shop, or sit in a quiet room if you can. When you give your mind to think of nothing, allow it some space to breathe it is a gift to you.
Thank you!
