Globally, more than 264 million people suffer from depression.
Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide. It contributes to disease, mental breakdown, divorce, and suicide.
It is a significant contributor to the global burden of disease.
Depression is a common mental disorder.
28 out of every 100 lawyers suffer from depression.
Here are some problems lawyers face with depression:
- They are ashamed.
- They believe that they are flawed.
- Many lawyers hide their depression even from themselves.
- Some throw alcohol or drugs at it trying to mask it.
- They hate to admit that depression can be genetic or a chemical imbalance.
- They believe that depression is a sign of weakness.
- They are in denial and think that it will go away if they put mind over matter.
- They won’t admit that without help, the depression only gets worse.
- They are too proud to ask for help.
- They don’t want to be shunned, labeled, or targeted as one who couldn’t cut the mustard.
THERE ARE SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE. Here are three steps to begin.
- Acknowledge that you have depression that no matter how hard you work or ignore the anxiety, it won’t go away.
- Talk to someone who will understand and guide you in the right direction.
- Do not listen to anyone who downplays your condition or tells you to just suck it up!
In these times of the pandemic, there are more pressures than ever.
