When I was a little girl, there was a commercial for Tareyton cigarettes, and it said, “I’d rather fight than switch.” When I speak with some lawyers the question always comes up why should I change anything?
There are three types of lawyers I‘ve observed.
A. The Complainers: They just feel lousy. They complain about their law practice. They complain about their marriage, their health, their children and their life. Yet, they take NO action to improve their lives.
B. The Tolerator: They put up with and endure any situation. They don’t want to make any waves. Peace at all costs. They are generally people pleasers. Although unhappy, they smile. They won’t admit to themselves or others how fed up they are with their life and law practice. The Tolerator can drink too much, overeat, spend too much money. They can waste hours upon hours surfing the Internet or watching television.
C. The Innovators: They are always looking for ways to improve. They take a fresh approach to their law practice and life. They are always looking for new ways to do things. They read, take courses, even online, they hire coaches, and they aspire to the next level. They are enthusiastic, love their lives and enjoy challenges.
Complainers and Tolerators may face life as a predicament instead of an opportunity. Without enthusiasm or energy to get outside of their comfort zone, nothing changes.
Which one are you? For fun, especially for Baby Boomers, I will include the YouTube link to the old Tareyton commercial you may remember?
If you are an Innovator, let’s talk.
